Test II – 25th January, 2021 – credit for Student improving grade on exercises.

Exercises

As part of the tutorials, you should write a scientific article in accordance with the applicable standards. It will be the result of:

  1. Research work in the field of literature research
  2. Research work in the Laboratory of Neuroscience (You are realizing within Fundamentals of systems theory)

//In the case of distance learning: We rely on ready-made data sets, for example: http://www.bbci.de/competition/iii/ OR we implement the article in theoretical aspect.

  1. Research work on your own regarding the creation of the entire article containing an example implementation

The first thing a Student should do is to develop their original topic of the article, which will be unique to those available on the Internet, for example in the Scopus database. The title of the article should be consulted with the teacher via e-mail or during the course.

The article should consist of:

  1. Abstract – you describe exactly what is your problem within the framework of the study
  2. Introduction – you describe exactly what is the current state of knowledge in this area. Articles should be cited. I recommend the database: www.scopus.com.
  3. Description of the research methodology
  4. Description of the measuring device
  5. Presentation of measurement results
  6. Original implementation concept
  7. Tests – required for articles that are feasible
  8. Summary. In summary, please include your plans for the future of the article.
  9. Literature – at least 16 items with a DOI number

The article must be in English. The length of the paper is not limited but length larger than 8 pages should be consulted with Tutor (papers should be not shorter than 5 pages). The whole paper is written using type size 9 and Arial font with the indentation set at 5 mm. The article format can be downloaded below:

Link to the form.

Warning! The article must be fully written in accordance with the form.

Student’s task is to learn in practice the brain-computer technology, including the Emotiv EPOC + NeuroHeadset device (You are realizing within Fundamentals of systems theory). During the classes the Student describes the experience gained during the morning measurement classes. Tests of applications attached to the device, including: EPOC Control Panel and Emotiv Xavier TestBench including FFT module. Each student should take screenshots of their work, and then used for an article within the Methodology of Scientific Research.

Information on the organization of exercises for Methodology of Scientific Research:

Each student individually works on their article during exercises. You can use the experience of colleagues – brainstorming – consult the issues with the teacher. You are welcome to bring your notebook with you.

06.10.2020  – Organizational classes.

13.10.2020 – Develop own scientific article title. The title should reflect the idea of what you want to combine or apply the brain-computer interface technology. Each Student prepares a article separately.

20.10.2020 – Acceptance of the topics of the proposed articles.

27.10.2020 – Publication database exploration: Scopus database. The obtained results should be collected for the purposes of the article being prepared. Work on the introduction to the article.

03.11.2020 – Publication database exploration: Science Direct database. The obtained results should be collected for the purposes of the article being prepared. Work on the introduction to the article.

10.11.2020 – Work on the development of an Abstract for an article.

17.11.2020 – Creating a description of the research methodology and a measuring device for the purposes of the article.

24.11.2020 – Creating a subsection presenting the measurement results and original implementation concept.

//In the case of distance learning: We rely on ready-made data sets, for example: http://www.bbci.de/competition/iii/ OR we implement the article in theoretical aspect.

01.12.2020 – Creating a summary for an article describing future plans. How to extend a given solution.

08.12.2020 – Formatting the bibliography for the article – at least 16 items with a DOI number. Final linguistic proofreading – proof of work.

15.12.2020 – First deadline for submitting the article for review.

22.12.2020 – 2nd Deadline. Corrections of articles.

Exercise schedule:

Deadline to agree on the subject of publication: October 20, 2020. The topic may be accepted by the teacher via e-mail.

Completion of articles (the day of physical delivery of the printout + sending the electronic version to the e-mail address decides):

1st date: 15th December, 2020 – full rating.

2nd deadline: 22th December, 2020 – reduced by one degree.

3rd deadline: 12th January, 2021 – rating reduced by two degrees.

The best articles will be qualified for publication in worldwide publishing houses.
